1: Complete the severity of alcohol dependence questionnaire. (SADQ assessment tool)
2: Prescribe the Chlordiazepoxide medication following the SADQ outcome.
- Severe dependance: regimen download , capsule calculator
- Moderate dependance: regimen download , capsule calculator
- Mild dependance: regimen download , capsule calculator
3: Prescribe the alternative Diazepam following the SADQ outcome.
- Severe dependance: regimen download
- Moderate dependance: regimen download
- Mild dependance: regimen download
3: Monitor the patient for withdrawal signs or symptoms.
- If required increase or decrease the chlordiazopoxide regimen
- Do not prescribe PRN doses.
4: All patients receiving inpatient detoxification need to be referred to the PADS team, contact us.
- PADS provide patients with identification and brief advice (IBA).
- The PADS alcohol liaison nurse can assess an inpatient for a hospital to home detox (HTH detox)
- The PAD alcohol liaison nurse can assess an inpatient for a hospital to Middleton St George detox (MSG detox)
5: Ensure the patient has been referred onto the PADS team.
